The Cart Lodge
Dogs are welcome at the Cart Lodge.
The Cart Lodge stands on its own in the Potash Barns complex. We think it was originally built in the 18thC as extra storage for the farm. The original steep pitched roof may have been destroyed by fire and replaced with the present lower pitched roof some time in the 1960's. It would have been used to store a couple of carts. When it was moved in 1996 it was being used to house calves, so there was a lot of cleaning to do!
Without too much alteration, we have managed to provide two comfortable bedrooms, and a spacious lounge/dining area.
The bathroom is equipped with both a walk-in shower (very useful for less mobile guests) and a deep Victorian bath with centre taps allowing for a luxuriating bath for two adults, or three children.
Each bedroom is supplied with crisp white cotton linen and towels as standard.
Floors are beautiful elm floorboards, whilst lighting is ample, warm and subtle. Both bedrooms have their own wardrobe and chest of drawers, as well as bedside cabinets. The lounge is comfortable with a 3 seater sofa bed, and two arm chairs, colour TV /video combi. The pine dining table can allow at least six to dine.
The kitchen is again constructed in elm with lovely soft ash worktops. As we like cooking ourselves, we have tried to make the kitchens as well equipped and user friendly as possible, with good quality utensils.
The star of the room is a Stoves six burner, double oven range cooker, accompanied by Dishwasher, Fridge, Freezer, and Washer/Drier.
The kitchen is finished with beautiful double bowl ceramic sink, and terracotta floors. Food processor, double toasters, cafetiere and hard wearing porcelain are all standard.
Whilst many visitors do come in order to do NO cooking at all, we like to point out that the kitchen is just as handy for a simple bit of toast or warming up that take-away in the Microwave.
The Cart Lodge has the benefit of a northward view across the vegetable garden, and beyond toward the wild flower meadow. Outside you can enjoy a private patio and garden area with hardwood garden furniture, chairs, umbrella and BBQ. You also have your own hard standing parking just outside. The garden is enclosed which makes it ideal for dog owners and we welcome well behaved dogs.
All in all a super single storey holiday home. Click on the thumbnails to check out the rooms.
